DON'T HURT THE FISH!!!
Well! If you are going to recommend it, you may as well try it! Another sort of good dinner for a picky eater. I presented green beans, rice and homemade fried fish. After this cutie ate most to all of the beans and had 1/4 cup of rice using a pincer grasp, she proceeded with Project Exploration. She began moving the rice into her water cup and back. She then began squeezing the fish until the juice slid out before, of course, strongly encouraging me to take a bite.
But, I must have put rice in front of her at least 5-7 times over the last 6 months and she never eats it. And the fish, it was the first time she didn't just push it away. I really believe there was great learning for her tonight. The clean up was as usual, an experience!
Welcome to Picky Foodies! My name is Edith Benisty. I am a mother and a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. I have created this blog as a place to gather my recipes, share advice, ideas and experiences. It serves as a witness to my journey as a foodie and hopefully provides parents, friends, caregivers and therapists with resources, cool links, cooking ideas and encouragement as you embark in the great adventure of feeding toddlers.

Messy Faces...Warm hearts!
The best way to experience yogurt and teach your brain to love it is through all your senses. Toddlers learn about food through touch, sight smell, taste and even get lots of information through the sounds food makes as they manipulate them or crunch on them. They are building a repertoire of knowledge about food and developing their likes and dislikes.
Expecting toddlers to eat neatly off a spoon is a little like saying to us: "let me feed you but first, put on this blind-fold over your eyes, this tape over your nose and sit on your hands".
Putting food into your mouth is a personal, invasive and sometimes overwhelming task. Give your tot the opportunity to get messy and enjoy all that food has to offer. Have fun!
